The Stylish but Senior-Friendly LG UX280

Fashion phones are not usually ideal for seniors because the design is geared towards a slim body and flat keypads. However, there are a few stylish handsets that can fit the needs of senior users. For instance, the LG UX280 or LG Wine sports an attractive design but offers a large display and a very roomy keypad.

Let's take a closer look at this fashionable mobile phone for seniors.

Like most fashion phones, the LG UX280 features a flip phone or clamshell design. It sports a 2.2-inch display with 240 x 320 pixels with 262,000 color. Senior users can adjust the screen's backlight time, the menu style, the font settings for style, color, and size, and the color scheme to suit their weak eyesight.

I mentioned the roomy keypad on the LG UX280 but let me provide more details. A user-friendly is compulsory for a senior-cell phone because it allows seniors with weak vision to dial easily or compose text messages without difficulty. The navigation array and the number keypad on this handset is very easy to use. The keys are large and quite tactile and the number keys on the keypad are in very large text.

The LG UX280 is not only a stylish and user-friendly mobile phone. This handset also comes with a nice set of features. The UX28 also offers voice dialing, Bluetooth, GPS navigation and a 1.3-megapixel camera. The camera does not support video capture but it's a nice bonus for a simple handset.

Can Seniors Use the Just5 Spacephones?

Just5 introduced an interesting line of simple cell phones last year. The company introduced the J510 model in Las Vegas. The manufacturer is calling this line of handsets as the "Spacephones."

The Just5 Spacephones sound like very technological handsets. So would these phones be ideal for seniors?

The answer is yes. You see, the J510 or Spacephone utilize the same design scheme as the Just5 cell phone for seniors. It offers large buttons, speaker, and the SOS button, and a dedicated button that can be pushed for emergency assistance.

Just5 also sees the J510 as an ideal cell phone for senior citizens. Alex Petrov VP of Operations at Just5 Americas said that:
“The J509 will eventually be seen as a necessity for seniors who want to be out and about. With the SOS feature, we expect them to be popular inside the home as well, maybe replacing the landline for many seniors previously resistant to that idea. The phones are durable and long-lasting, and the calling plans are affordable.”
I'm not sure when this handset will be offered in the US. The company's website only shows the j509 so perhaps it will be available in the future.

The Just5 CP11 cell phone for seniors citizens was also showcased at MWC 2011. This handset features a large display that pops out. It that sounded strange then let me elaborate. The CP11's display open stiletto-style when the two buttons on the sides of the phone are pushed.

Other than this unusual design feature, the Just5 CP11 offers all the necessary features for seniors. The 2.2″ LCD display is large enough to accommodate the weak eyes of many elderly users.
