Pre-paid Cell Phones for Seniors

Pay-as-you go phones or pre-paid handsets appear to be suited for the needs of senior users. These handsets are meant for occasional users and as cheap alternatives for contract mobile phones.

Pay-as-you go phones or pre-paid handsets may not be advanced as the latest phones that one can purchase on contract, they can be ideal for the situation of elderly consumers. These cheap mobile phones for senior citizens are often easy to use and offer reliable service at a very economical price.

Most seniors do use mobile phones regularly so a contract deal with a monthly charge will not fit their lifestyle or fixed income budget. Pre-paid handset provide flexibility and low rates for seniors.

Nicholas P. Sullivan, a researcher, stated that,
Clearly, the often high cost of post-paid (also known as contract) cell phones is a
major stumbling block for older Americans and the parents of older
children. That means prepaid cell phones are going to be the most logical
way for millions of older Americans to live safer.”

Most of the phones I featured in this blog are pre-paid phones. The Jitterbug J is a good example of a prepaid handset that is ideal for seniors. They are bought at a low full price and service depends on the consumer.

There are plenty of pre-paid carriers that offer cheap solutions for the elderly like, Jitterbug, Net10, Tracfone, Cricket, Consumer Cellular, and others...

A typical prepaid-deal includes the full price, an activation cost and service can be for a fixed price and minutes or via prepaid cards.

That's it for this post on pre-paid cell phones for the elderly. Visit often to get more information on services and cell phones for senior citizens.

Kyocera A101K Simple Cell Phone for Seniors

Let's look at one of the early cell phones for seniors. The Kyocera A101K is one of the earliest mobile phones for seniors and was introduced nearly five years ago.

This device also prides itself in its simplicity. As you probably now, simple mobile phones work best for senior users because they are uncomplicated and easy-to-use.

The Kyocera A101K sports a slim body that is only 15mm. The phone was released a few months after the RAZR V3 so that may explain the trend towards the thin design.

This senior-friendly device offers a number of features that cater to the elderly. For instance, it sports One-touch buttons that make it easy to call numbers registered in advance. This handset also offers 3 programmable quick dial buttons located at the top that can be personalized by labeling it with a name tag.

Of course, the Kyocera A101K also comes with large buttons, a staple feature for a decent mobile phone for senior citizens.

However, this phone is voice-only capable so its limited to making phone calls. It can handle this task pretty well but text messaging is not possible with this device.

The Kyocera A101K features a talk time of 170 minutes per charge with a standby time of 270 hours.

Senior Citizens one of the Hottest Cell Phone Markets According to IBM

Cell phones have become tremendously popular in the last several yeas and seniors have started to use them. However, new models of cell phone for seniors are not being released every week as opposed to the smart phones, fashion phones, texting phones and camera phones for younger markets. This means that the seniors market is a ripe market for handsets.

To target the potential of this market, the folks at IBM have initiated a two-year research program that focuses on making cell phones easier to use, for both the elderly and the illiterate. the National Institute of Design of India and Tokyo University are also involved in this project.

Ben Wood, research director at British consultancy CCS Insight comments, "As the population in Europe and North America ages, the need for specialized mobile devices will become acute. Phone makers will have to adapt if they want to appeal to a generation that has grown up with mobile devices, but can't use them in the ways they used to.

This effort is also open-source, so all governments and businesses can take advantage of the fruits of this cell phones for seniors and the illiterate research.

Hopefully, this will increase the number of senior-friendly phones in the market.
