Tracfone currently offers one of the best cell phones for seniors, the SVC phone (Senior Value Cell Phone). However, a look at their line-up reveals that this pre-paid carrier offer other handsets that can fit the needs of the elderly.

The Samsung T101G from Tracfone is a simple prepaid phone. A quick look at its features and attributes and one will be convinced that it is a senior-friendly mobile phone. Let's look at the elements that make this handset ideal for seniors.

The T101G is designed mostly for making calls and sending text messages. It doesn't offer high-end features but complicated and fancy capabilities are not required for a mobile phone for senior citizens. It does offer a 1.5-inch color screen with a 128 x 128-pixel resolution and support for 65K colors. It is a bit small but the screen can still serve the needs of users with weak eyesight.

This cell phone for senior citizens also offers a user-friendly keypad and menu. The standard navigation area under the Samsung T101G's color display include send/end buttons and soft navigation keys, and is complemented by a standard alpha-numeric keypad. This handset also offers T9 predictive text technology, which allows users to compose messages quickly. It autocompletes text on the alpha-numeric keypad and offers options for selecting the correct word.

The T101G also comes with a senior-friendly price of $14.99.

Other key features for this handset include:
  • voicemail, caller ID, and call waiting
  • phonebook with up to 100 entries
  • 15 polyphonic ringtones, clock with alarm and converter
  • keypad lock, hands-free speakerphone, external caller ID and vibrating alert
  • Size: 4.07 x 1.77 x .59"
  • Weight: 2.47 ounces
  • battery: Inner Cell 800mAh

This concludes our short look at the Samsung T101G from Tracfone. Tune in every week for more cell phones for seniors.

My son has talked about getting me an iPhone for some time now and I've told him time and time again that I don't like the touch screen, I have trouble pressing the right buttons. I'm always scared the phone will crumble in my hands. This phone seems much more up my alley and all I really need is a phone that just does what a phone is supposed to do and that is to make calls! I like to have buttons on my phone, i like to feel like I'm pressing something. With TracFone I can just go to the store and buy my minutes there and there's also no activation fee!

The best cell for seniors is SVC from Tracfone. At least they will have a piece of mind that they can call in case or emergency or just to speak to someone when they feel alone. I bought one for my grandmother and she thank me lots of time. For just $7 a month they will feel important and loved.

SVC from Tracfone now @ $7 a month. I have written my point of view and since I talk from experience since my grandmother fell and she did not a phone near her. Nothing bad happened, but know she takes my gift to her her SVC cellphone to the bathroom, I bought like a necklace where she hangs the cellphone like all of the time.

I've been trying to find a phone that's good for my grandma and this one seems like a goo fit. It's great that is so affordable and Tracfone has a great service. I know I can find it at K-mart but do you know anyother place where I can buy it? If not I'll try the tracfone website, because there's not a K-mart near my house.

I got my Mom an svc from Tracfone and it was her favourite Christmas gift out of the piles of stuff she got! The big buttons, large text and louder sound make it much easier for her and the kids text her almost every day which she says is the best gift of all! I like that it has 911 emergency location so she can always be found and it cost so little...$14.99 for the phone and $7.00 a month for service!

I like the look of this SVC phone. It seems to fill the need for a really cheap phone that seniors can use and always have with them for emergencies. It is great that if you need to use it more, for example, over the holidays, you can just pay in more money as you need to, and not have to pay a monthly subscription when you don't use all the minuts you pay for

SVC has really earned the reputation of being the least expensive cell phone for seniors as you can read by these comments. Let's face, these days everyone needs and should have access to a cell phone. When was the last time you saw a pay phone anywhere? A lot of thought went into the design with features that are easy to use and necessary. They made sure it is affordable so even those on the tightest of budgets can get one. Just think how comforting it will to be able to call your family and friends when they want.

This looks like a great phone for seniors and does not look expensive as it looks pretty simple to operate and doesn't have lots of bells and whistles. It does not have hearing aid compatibility though. I still think the best phone for seniors is the Tracfone SVC Samsung T155G for only $14.99 paired off with a $19.99 Tracfone plan, with 90 service days and 60 minutes. There's no $35 activation fee as with Jitterbug and Doro Phone Easy by Consumer Cellular.

it really is a senior-friendly. I got one for my dad this past weekend and he has been transformed from a cell phone hating old man to a "technology savy" dad hehe. He loves using his SVC cellphone now, before he couldn't see much, muchless figure out how to work it. Plus he can afford the monthly service charge of 7 dollars. The phone is only 14.99, its great.

Excellent blog. SVC is the best plan for senior citizens hands down. You can't beat $7/month and a big screen with big text and most importantly, it is extremely helping towards the safety of our loved ones. My mom will be 80 in March and now with her new SVC phone, I can call her and visa versa at all hours of the day - even when she is out running errands (which she does all the time still god bless her soul).

This phone that you are reviewing is a good phone but it is not the actual SVC phone from Tracfone which is the Samsung T155 G. The difference, I think, is that the SVC phone has backlit, bigger keys and is hearing aid compatable. In any case, both phones are hreat options.

@ hal890

This post is about other senior-friendly phones from Tracfone. I've already featured the Samsung T155 G or the SVC phone, in this post: http://cellphonesforseniorcitizens.blogspot.com/2010/09/tracfone-svc-senior-value-cell-phone.html

My intention was to introduce phones that might serve the need for seniors. phones

Unfortunately, the t101g is not available in my area. I'm looking for a very inexpensive phone for someone to use for just a few weeks. She's traveling here from another country and it's too expensive to use her regular phone. It seems that Tracfone has the cheapest options in phones and plans. The choices are Samsung t105g or t155g, otherwise known as the SVC. I don't think my friend cares about that, just doesn't want to spend a lot of money.

I am thinking about getting my mother a Straight Talk cell phone because we are not happy with her service...does anyone know if they will let us transfer her current number?

This senior service isn't just about seniors. I mean if you need a second phone for example for when family visits from abroad, or in case of emergencies for the little ones that don't onw a cellphone full time, but let's say they have a sleepover at a friends house and it's the perfect phone for that too, so affordable, only 14.99, really great.

All tracfones are senior friendly. Seriously, they are very very basic, and even the more expensive feature phones are largely considered to be pillars of basicdom. The nice thing is, and I've seen a couple of times now, is that seniors who started with a samsung t155 six months ago, are now wanting to expand a little and get a phone with features. It's nice cause the plans all stay the same, no matter what phone you get.

@uvstate, after checking their website, although the phone selection in my area is very limited, they do seem pretty basic. The senior value cellphone is a great idea to catch the attention of so many who don't have access to a phone. Some seniors may want something a little more sophisticated and they can find that as well. Good time to purchase...most of the phones include a double minutes for life card which can make your minutes go twice as far.
