The Samsung Mantra From Virgin mobile
Samsung seems to have a knack for producing good cell phones for seniors. For instance the Tracfone SVC phone, which is manufactured by Samsung, is rated as one of the best cell phones for seniors in 2011. This time let's look at another senior-friendly mobile phone from this manufacturer.
The Samsung Mantra or Samsung M340 is offered by Virgin Mobile for $39.99. It is also available at Amazon for an affordable price of $29.99. This price fits the budget of seniors who usually do not have a source of income.
Let's go over the features of this mobile phone for senior citizens. The Mantra sports a flip phone design and can be described as a basic cell phone. this means that its simple enough that an elderly person can learn to use it in a matter of hours. It doesn't have any complicated features so its best suited for sending text messages of making calls.
The Samsung Mantra also features a 2-inch internal display (128 x 160 pixels, 65K color depth), which is large enough to accommodate the weak vision of some seniors. This cell phone for seniors also comes a user-friendly keypad with large buttons. It has hearing aid compatibility for M4/T4.
Other key features for this device include a VGA camera, Bluetooth, Web browser, bi-lingual interface, and organizer tools including calendar, alarm clock, and calculator. These features are not really that useful for seniors but its nice to have them on a $30 mobile phone.
That's it for this look at the Samsung Mantra. Stay tuned for more posts on cell phones for seniors and related topics.

the Samsung from Tracfone only costs $15 and then the activation fee is $7 a month. This is a bargain. What I really like about this phone is that it is basic and not at all confusing. For my mother it has bigger keys and screen and seeing is much easier for her
Is there really that many cellphone services for seniors out there? wow, I never thought companiw would care to cater to seniors, this is a great surprise.
I saw the other day at kmart a phone from tracfone for seniors called SVC. Did you do an entry about that service, the phone was really cheap, 14.99 and Im interested in getting one for my grandmother but would love some more info, it'll be great if you do a review about it.
This isn't a bad phone at all. Nice big keypad, which is the top priority.
But I'm inclined about Tracfone's senior phone for several important reasons: primarily, the price. Yes, it's dead-simple to use but I think for senior on fixed incomes, the ability to purchase a phone for under 20 bucks and pay less than $7 a month to keep it active is irresistible.
That seal the deal for me, frankly.
@Tracy - The $7 a month fee is an activation fee with SVC? Really? From what I've read up on the company (on behalf of my parents), I thought the $7 a month was the actual monthly service price - so do you have to pay the $7 and then pay for a Tracfone aircard as well?
